On October 17th our program will feature Bert Tompkins, who served in the United States Marine Corps as a CH-46 helicopter mechanic (enlisted) and a F-18 Hornet and MV-22 Osprey pilot (officer). Bert’s military career included postings as a mission commander, USMC Squadron safety and operations inspector/auditor, a squadron-level director of operations, instructor, Weapons and School Graduate. During his twenty-plus years in the Marines Bert flew jet fighters and rotary-winged aircraft around the US and Asia. He also deployed and flew in support of combat operations over the last decade. Bert’s talk will showcase Organizational risk management methods used in military flying organizations, compare those with methods available outside the military, and suggest a practical risk management approach pilots everywhere can apply every day. FAA WINGS credit is available.
